We used to have just volcanic ash and a big mess.

Then we had an overly tropical pangaea

Then we had a horrible ice age.

Now things are okay, at the tail end of the ice age.

I'm lucky to not have been born 65 billion years ago!

Humans are living longer and healthier lives then 100 years ago! When I get sick, no leeches for me!

It's so much better now then it used to be!

Longer life spans

Better ability to adapt to surroundings

World-wide information exchange

Highest rate of democracy

Is the world perfect? No. But it is far better than it was 50, 100, 500 years ago.

The state of overall affairs is better today than 50 or 100 years ago.

But people just don't know how to behave. I'd prefer to interact with other people then than now, but only if I was wealthy, healthy and of the "right" class; otherwise i'd just be scum to everyone that mattered.

Sure the great levellers of society (consumerism, rise of the middle class, etc.) have had their detriments to our societies, but also their benefits. All in all, i think we're on the up.
