When typing you take notes faster.

You can keep your notes organized.

You can edit notes later without making a mess.

You can highlight important things quickly. instead of bringing a high lighter and a pen to class

You dont have to worry about sharpening a pencil or running out of ink.

Get your inferior analog note taking device away from my mobile office...

Your dead trees require another component to even be useful and store anything. Not to mention that even the slightest bit of water could make the words run and the note fall apart... not to mention food and the like. A laptop can get dirty and even break, but as long as the hard drive is still slightly intact the data will still be there. You cant lose a note that is filed diligently under a searchable indexed folder called "Notes". But paper falls out of pockets and gets crumpled up, needs to be stored in folders or books and takes up far too much storage economy. Not to mention all the trees you are killing, you damned fascist!

My laptop is recyclable... into other laptop or crazy electronics projects... Not to mention i can hook it up to my car, talk to it and tell it to play the music i like without touching anything. Call me when paper can talk to me.

Paper definitely does 'crash', although its not the same thing. Paper equivalent of crashes would be when you spill coffee on it and cant read anything you wrote in the last 5 minutes (lost all your unsaved data)...

The greater amount of attention required to write on paper actually helps you to commit the material to memory more effectively.

Also, with paper, you aren't tempted to play Solitaire, instead.

your ecology argument is unsound. using paper efficiently is more ecologically sustainable than using a laptop efficiently - how do you dispose of the laptop when you're done? what goes into it's manufacture? think of the cradle to grave nature of laptops and the life cycle costs involved then notice that paper is a cradle to cradle technology. the words will also not run in water if you use a pencil where as with water the laptop will be rendered permanently inoperable.

it is also scientifically proven that we retain more information if we hear it aloud, write it down, and read it. taking notes with a laptop removes one o those steps and thus makes things more difficult to remember.

You may not have to worry about sharpening a pencil or running out of ink, but you do have to worry about the battery life, or where you are going to get power from.

Also I have never heard of paper coming up will a critical error and losing all the notes that you have just taken.

I can still take notes outside in the rain with pencil and paper.

Paper is a renewable resource, as are pencils.

Laptops are made from plastic- which is not renewable or bio-degradeable.

(And I like the other argument above about being able to use pencils and paper in the rain).

Pencils also don't run out of batteries, and if I pass through a magnet I won't lose my notes.

And my paper isn't subject to being lost in power outages, virus outbreaks, or accidential deletion

And I can draw better on paper if notes call for it (chemistry for example, or physics).

Although I sometimes use my laptop for notes, I use paper more often

My paper has never crashed or ran out of battery

It's recyclable, and it only cost me a dollar (plus another 25 cents for the pencil)

and there is one important factor no one has discussed the getting the number i dont know about the rest of you but when anyone (Girls included) gives me a nuber there isnt a printer involved, or e-mail so unless your an internet preditor you should have a peice of paper handy when your looking for chicks
