For those who don't know, the Fair Tax will completely eliminate the Federal Income Tax and most other federal taxes, and replace it with a national sales tax at around 23%.

Generally:
1. The poor and lower class will receive a prebate from the government (maybe a couple thousand dollars each year).
2. Necessities such as food, clothes, medicine, health care, will not be taxed.

While used items such as garage sales and ebay purchases are not taxed, all new items will be taxed.

The benefit of the fair tax is that people who earn their income illicitly or under the books, are not unfairly exempt from paying taxes. Prostitutes and drug dealers face no federal tax on income, as it is hidden, but whatever they spend will be taxed.

Garage sales sell used items, which the fair tax does not tax. Only new items are taxed.

Yeah. except for the fact that necessities (food/clothing) aren't taxed. Please try again.

"Fair Tax" shifts the burden entirely to the lower classes who spend every last cent they earn and then some just to get by, while the richest get to keep even more of the money they don't need that would be put to better use in the government and economy improving society for everyone.

There are always way around codes. For instance, what's to differentiate between a garage sale that goes on everyday from 8am-5pm and a business? Or, whats to stop businesses from opening just over the border in Canada. A negative side effect could also be lack of demand cutting supply side jobs. Just some ideas.

Fair Tax is an oxymoron in the USA. Laws always are made to have loopholes

Are you saying poor people don't deserve luxuries?
