Playing soccer (at a world-class level) requires more skill than playing baseball.

Ok, for a start its called Football, not Soccer. Anyway. In what way is Baseball a real sport? We don't play baseball, its really too girly. We have something similar, but its harder, and as i say played by school girls. No self respecting adult male would even consider it.

I just did a google on David Wells. If by Physique, you mean in a "who ate all the pies" manner. No Footballer has that physique, thankfully. It would be so boring if they were all too fat to run to the other end of the pitch.

You could just imagine it:

Rooney Passes to O'Shea,
O'Shea Passes to Fletcher, Fletcher Collapses.
The Referee calls or a pie to get Fletcher back on his feet. Oh too late, he's eaten the ball. Does anyone have another ball here? We've run out.

Ah yes, I forget that you americans don't have the intellect to understand a real sport. While we're on the subject, you actually think baseball is exciting? It's easier than rounders and thats for schoolgirls.

Although I prefer baseball, I have to agree that football/soccer requires much more skill and athleticism. I'll quote former Phillies first baseman John Kruk: "I'm not an athlete; I'm a ballplayer."

In soccer/football, we play nonstop for two 45 minute halves. We have the Maradonna, the half Preki, the full preki, the scissors, and the Cruyff turn, among a myriad of other technical skills one has to master in order to play successfully. Also, learning to juggle and have good first touches are integral parts of playing the game. In baseball, you have none of that. You could even argue that baseball is not intense at all. Where are the slide tackles?!

I do respect baseball as a sport, and all other sports, but I think soccer requires more skill than baseball.

what have you been smoking dude? Are you really going to compare the skills that a soccer player possesses vs a baseball player's skills or should I say lack of skills? 1st of all. Soccer is played primarily with one's feet. let me repeat that again louder and slower. SOCCCCERRR IIIIS PLLLAYEDDD PRRRIMARRRYY WWITTH ONNNE'SSS FEEEEET. Baseball is played only with your hands. Now think about it... You are trained from birth to do everything with your hands, therefore; playing a sport with your hands is prety much second nature and does not require as much effort. On the other hand you are not required to handle many things with your feet, therefore; making it much more difficult to grasp the concept of handling a soccer ball to the effect of being efficient at it. Have you not seen the tricks that soccer players do with a soccer ball. I'll use me as an example. The first time I played baseball I was about 16 or 17 and I outplayed the people who had been playing baseball all their lives. Can you say that about someone who attempts to play soccer for the first time? I think not. That tells you the lack of skills that exists in baseball. All you have to do is hit a ball baseball. there is practically no strategy to baseball. Get a life

Dude. K think about this. Baseball. Fun sport for , right? So a player is either pitching, standing on a position, sitting in a dugout or batting. watch them when they run, and you will say he fat jiggling. also, you can see their potbellies. In soccer, that is like finding a four leaf clover. So think about that first! Can any1 do a rainbow? Can just anyone fake and feint like a pro and make an opponent go dizzy? O yea, and any knuclehead can swing around a piece of wood trying to hit a sphere of leather. A lot of skill there, right?

I enjoy both soccer and baseball but for someone to say that baseball requires more skill should stop watching the games and go out and go play them, baseball players are also not exacly an "athlete" there fisique is not in shape, many baseball players are fat and slow while all soccer players, even the bench players are all in shape and built muscle whise. Baseball is also an action and execution sport you really dont have to think that much, if you get the ball you throw to wear the runner is going, its not that hard, though i will admit catching and throwing accuratly does require some skill, but soccer, on the other hand requires thinking on where to pass, when to shoot, for a keeper its extremely hard thinking when to come out and positioning, also soccer is very hard to master the moves

I don't even know how anyone can compare these two games. I mean, baseball is so boring I don't know how they even have an arguement. I actually read this article earlier entitled "How long, on average, is a baseball actually in play during a ballgame?" How long you ask? Well here you go:"Sports Illustrated columnist Rick Reilly timed a ball in play during a 2000 playoff game. The game lasted 3 hours and 15 minutes, and the ball was in play a total of 12 minutes and 22 seconds (and Reilly admitted to being "generous with the stopwatch"). Do the math and you'll see that for 94% of the game, players were either spitting seeds, jumping in and out of the batter's box, or adjusting themselves." Wow, what a great sport. Even besides that, there are so many other reason why baseball sucks: 1.The Schedule- 162 games in a regular season? Way too many, which means anything "exiting" that happens within the first half of the season doesn't mean a damn thing. 2.Weather Delays- If soccer, football, and rugby players all have to play in rougher conditions, what makes baseball players so special? Honestly, what could possibly happen? The pitcher will throw the ball slower? A player might slip and fall during the 2 minutes he actually runs during the game? Give me a break. 3.Pitchers- If a QB has to play during 4 full quarters of football with defensive ends trying to take his head off why does a pitcher get to rest his p*ssy little arm? 4.Fitness and SKILL: Show me one professional soccer player who isn't in shape and I will bow to you in disbelief. Soccer players have to constantly run around the field while trying to keep perfect control of the ball, regularly passing long distances to other players to keep it from the other team who is constantly trying to take it from them. Accurately passing the ball, catching it on your feet and keeping a good touch on it is way harder than any "skill" in baseball. Soccer teams are made up of real athletes unlike baseball which is made up of a bunch of out of shape dudes with heavy hands. Just think about this, "Put Wayne Rooney on a baseball field and he might be able to get a base hit if he's lucky, now put David Ortiz on a soccer field and see how much he can do before he has a heart attack.

David Wells, Dude. I would assume that you would want to make a positive argument for baseball. David Wells is a fat pig and why would you consider the disaster/car crash of a body that is his as a "physique"? What athlete can you find in a baseball? Have you seen how disproportional baseball players' bodies are and how out of shape they are. You have to grasp the meaning of the word athlete before you start throwing it around.

uh skill, can you juggle the ball with just your foot to 200+? not using your hands, only picking the ball up with your foot? can you shoot a ball from 50 "yards" (i would have said meters but you're an uneducated american so you would have no clue what i was referring to) into the goal? can you sprint at top speeds while dribbling the ball? can you head the ball coming at you into a target? no. baseball is played in like 3 countries, soccer is played in nearly every country. people in europe laugh at baseball's stupidity. OOOH also, you're saying any kid can become a proffesional soccer player because they're at the same level and you cannot better yourself? wrong, and while you can better yourself, most great soccer players are born with a gift while stupid americans can hit a small ball with a wooden stick, how primitive. (sorry big word, means undeveloped, simple, easy to comprehend) soccer is played around the world because it is respected.

Whats so fun about watching lardo's sitting on the bench? 22 players running around a field is much better. Like to see one of those lardos score before he pops the ball for tripping on it. it aint fun watching a guy with a bat and a guy with a helmet behind him looking like hes gonna sh*t himself. srsly, you probably gain more weight then losing weight being a baseball player

You try to run just one lap with the ball in your control. it takes so much more skills then catching a small ball with your hands. I can catch and pitch, the first time i played baseball, but soccer took months, and everyone can run and kick, but accurately? can you aim for one corner and kick it there? after 1 half you become really tired. in baseball you just put a bunch of jabba the hut obese people on a bench right? people were born to use their hands for everything. can you kick curved balls? can you juggle the ball over 300 times? i can juggle a baseball for a day without dropping it dude, any fat ass can catch, throw, maybe bat sometimes and run around 4 bases.

Ignorance... complete and utter ignorance. If all Soccer players just ran around and kicked the ball as you said then 2 and 3 year olds could be professional. Speed, footwork, decision making, positioning, strength are some of the things you need in soccer. I've seen guys who are able to dribble 3 or 4 defenders and rip a shot outside of the foot into the upper 90. It takes a lot more skill than some idiots think to rip a shot with the outside of the foot. You must be watching preschool soccer or something.

What skill is there in soccer? Run around and try to kick a black and white ball into a net? Granted, you have to have the endurance, but skill? My definition of skill is actually partaking in something over a period of time and being able to better yourself to a higher level. In soccer, anyone is born able to run and kick and make sissy hits to the face. But can everyone and anyone truly play baseball? Most people cannot hit a curve ball to save their lives. How about a routine game of catch? Not everyone can catch a baseball. Any knucklehead can run around, sweat, and kick a ball. A lot of skill there, right?

Easy? When's the last time a school girl hit a ball the size of her palm, moving 80+ miles per hour, and breaking into curves, change-ups, sliders, splitters, and many more. And that's only hitting.

where were you playing baseball? England? Come to America and play. Try hit a fastball being thrown at 90+ mph. Try hit a curve, slider, change-up, knuckle ball. Its not easy at all. Yes we use our hands but not everyone can play top quality baseball. I respect soccer (football) very much and think that the players are very athletic. They may be able to run for ever but have you seen the size of soccer players, you guys aren't big at all. Baseball players, some are fat, some are lean, but everyone of them has muscle that no soccer player will ever have. Also try hit a ball 400+ ft.

baseball is so much better than soccer because the last time i watched a soccer game i fell asleep in the first quarter or whatever you people call it. i went to a ballet and it was super boring and i didn't fall asleep yet soccer is so boring i fall asleep every time. i dont know if you british people have some kind of super power but no one can stay awake during soccer and whats the whole thing with the world cup it is more boring than regular soccer games because most of it is the players partying when they score a goal and then the score ends up due to penaltys and blah blah blah blah that the score ends up to be 1-2

Haha soccer harder than Baseball?? LOL, though soccer is more physically demanding, Baseball requires more power, strength, you use your feet up to hit a ball, I bet every single one of these soccer players couldn't hit a Baseball coming at them at even 80 mph, let alone a curve or slider. I also bet you could not steal a base without getting thrown out by the catcher. Or ground a ball coming at you over 70 mph bouncing uncontrollably and throw the ball 50-100 feet away (depending on where you are suppose to play at that point in the game ex. small batter, move up, big move back, someone on first, move up, set up for double play) straight to someone's chest in the matter of seconds with no error, and if you error they may make another base. You call it a girl sport yet girls aren't allowed to play baseball which is rare of course for a handful of girls, but not in MLB or college? Almost never at even highschool level? Yet you see girls playing soccer. Just saying. Baseball is MUCH harder on the mental, and technical part.

Baseball is just played with your hands? You serious, lol do you even understand the footwork of leading off or stealing, the mind games that come to that? Or the foot work when batting and knowing how important your stance is and power is and understand where it comes from (starts at your feet) thats why baseball players weigh more, and are usually much bigger than soccer players, requires more strength. Tricks have nothing to do with this arguement because were not talking about tricks. Science already proven hitting a baseball is the most difficult thing in sports, go watch sports science, and no strategy? You are kidding me right? Lol try picking where to throw it with someone on 1st and 3rd which happens often in the matter of seconds.

Well first off no one does rainbows in soccer unless you think you are amazing. All I see soccer players do is fake one way or the other or fake them by doing that thing where they lift their leg over the ball but that's it. Baseball you have to hit a curveball and a fastball and you have to be able to catch bullets that are comin at you while when a ball gets shot at them unless their not the goalie they turn away and stick their foot out instead of taking one for the team and in baseball it hurts a lot more getting hit by a baseball than a soccer ball
