Although History might seem somewhat, pointless, it can be a very useful subject in many ways, however these reasons may differ in the kind of upbringing you have had and how much you've been influenced. Many people think it is important to know your past and to understand the more political side of the past of your country. History is linked to Medicine and Law, which many people take on with the subject of History.
Is it used to broaden your understandings, but many people just find the subject interesting and worth learning. However, as said before, it all depends.
