Larry. Darling. There's not enough imaginary money in the world.

If there were, however, it still wouldn't be prostitution unless you offered me some of it in exchange for sex. Sleeping with someone because you think they're rich may be trashy and ill-advised, but it's not illegal.

I would say that unverifiable claims should be exempt, but apparently claiming to want a long-term relationship counts (even if you don't specify that you want one with your current sexual partner).

Unless, of course, the court in the above case really thought that lying about religion was enough on its own. They emphasized the whole "wanting a relationship" thing, but it seemed like cover to me. Some cover, though: half of Manhattan would be locked up tomorrow if "I'm looking for something serious" were enough to constitute rape by deception when "something serious" didn't materialize.

THINK OF IT THIS WAY:

When you lie, you make the person believe something that is not true. Either you make them believe you are different than who you really are, or you make them believe the situation is different than it really is.
Now in their eyes, they believe this and based on this sole fact, this new situation they believe they are in, or the new person they think you are, they decide to have sex with you. They want to have sex with this "fake person/situation". However, they never wanted to have sex with YOU, the real you. And they never wanted or would want to have sex in the REAL situation. Based on reality they frankly did not agree to it.

Yes ... sort of. This particular case is smeared with some ugly bigotry, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be criminalized. After all, if you totally misrepresent a product then you're guilty of false advertising. This seems fairly similar to me.

That said, it also shouldn't be rape. That would be ridiculous. It ought to be a misdemeanor with a stiff fine attached, but only in cases where the wronged party explicitly stated that sex was conditional on certain attributes the accused lacked.

That said, I am unsure about my position because it invites false accusations, say, after a nasty break up. That's the sort of thing I'd hope would be handled responsibly by the courts, but I've seen enough miscarriage of justice to be nervous about relying on that.

Well since we're talking about a legal concept what standard of proof do you suppose could be provided to demonstrate that someone who said "i love you" was lying at the time they said it? There is none, no such proof exists, it's like trying to disprove that I'm thinking about trains at the time you read this comment.

Oh, I get it! So, If I told you that I had a yacht, mansion and 20 million dollars and you have sex with me because you 'think' I am rich, then I should be charged with rape... But then you should be charged with prostitution....

Well, she knew so little about the guy to take his word that he was a Jew and a number of other things, so what is the difference. I think she was stupid for falling for it. This is the dumbest story that I have ever heard! First off, it condones racism because she saw the person she was with and was not smart enough to get to know him. Then because he didn't fit a certain parameter (race, religion or whatever) then she is the victim???? I think she is justifying anti-semitism because she has definitely expressed her dislike and hatred for another based on his race and background.... Had she known he was Arab, she would not have.... GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK!!!

lol, funny story...shows the stupidity of some judges, and the jewish woman, and racism prevalent throughout the world (brought on by religious beliefs, but that's another debate)

anyways, no, because this is a personal event. The jewish woman should know better than to have sex only with someone from her religion. Well, if she agreed to have sex, she must have liked the guy...apart from him being arabic (another case of how religion can ruin love and create hate among people, but again, that's another debate). Yeah, I read the story...it was in a Jerusalem court that he was convicted...and what's going on in Israel? only fighting and hate between two religious groups. Well, on a purely secular note, the woman liked the arabic guy and had sex with him...end of story. The woman thought she knew enough about him to have sex, and so she did. The final thing is that she AGREED to it and so it was not rape. Charging rape on account of religion is simply unjustified.

things like saying 'i love you' or 'i wanna get marry sumday' i think cant be caunted as lying, coz we can't never prove that at the time he/she said it, he/she didn't mean it. but things like how rich you are, how well your job is,etc should be considered as lie, because we know that when sumone say sumthing like that when the reality is different, he intentionally say sumthing that is not and more over we can come to the court with some proofs.

the fact the he/she lied to get laid shows that he/she knows that the other people wont have sex with them if they dont fake it. lie can be caunt as cheating. when you're lying to your partner you actually castrated her/his right to choose. and rape is basically crossing sumone's rite to choose to do/not so sex.

(wish iam not on the wrong side. it's kinda confusing)

If a woman that wanted to have sex with me told me that she was rich I would investigate for myself by looking at their possessions... like their vehicle(s) and house(s)....

Maybe you should take the time to get to know someone before hopping into bed with them if you are looking for something more than a quick session with a stranger who is going to say whatever it takes to get your pants off?

Just Saying...

A lie is Fraud and if some one lies then that is the legal issue at hand.

To lessen the charge of Rape to this low point would be to trivialize it greatly.

no recuasse rape is forcefully having sex with someone that has not consented, obviously this is not the same as statutory rape
