Are we talking in love, or just love in general, like the love of friends or family? While I don't think we need love to survive, like physically live, we do need some sort of love or we'll have a very miserable life (duh). I once heard a story though. The main gist of it was that there was a woman who went to help in a very crowded orphanage. This orphanage had a problem with the babies dying without any noticeable cause. Basically, the lady felt sorry for the babies, who were just basically fed, cleaned and put in bed, but never loved, and so she took the time to cuddle each one for a while, ever so often. And the babies stopped dying randomly! I think it was a true story too. It just shows how we're made to be social.

Well, the question is not very clear. As an individual, you do not need love to survive (IMO). However, as a human species we need it in order to encourage reproduction. Without it, the human species would probably fade away.

Because if no human would love, they would not care for their children and they would die. Animals do this instinctively, and if they do not, the children can instinctively survive without parents.

Yes, absolutely. There was actually an experiment done to see whether or not this is true. It was called the Russian Baby experiment and it was done in the 40's. I actually just learned about it recently in Psychology class. Anyways, basically they gave the babies all their basic needs (they fed them, changed their diaper, etc.) but had no human interaction at all, whatsoever. The babies had a low appetite, and slept most of the time, and when they were awake they just laid there. They ALL died, every single one of them.

We definately need love to survive in one form or another. The love of a person, or the love of an object, a smell, the sun, a certain taste, something. If you loved nothing, if you had nothing to excite you, or soothe you, or make you want to try and experience that one little thing that gives you an inkling of happiness or just comfort, then there would be no need to survive or want to survive.

if we need love to survive how do hobos survive? im joking no we dont because if everybody you love or ever will love died right now you would survive (unless you love yourself in which case you would die along with the people who you would ever have loved. back on track.) if they would have died like right now youd live but it would be very hard and difficult for you to go on without them

If love was a necessary component of survival, all people devoid of it would not survive.

we as humans are an animal, the only animal that has the ability to love. Other animals survive do they not? So why would we lose the ability to survive without love?

Do we need love to survive? I think no. Do we need love to LIVE. That is a different question. When you say survive, I think of the well being of our species. When I say live, I mean happiness and the worth of survival. People can live long, horrible lives or short, wonderful lives or any combination. I think you need love to enjoy life weather you survive or not.
