If China attacked America, it would most likely be a cyber attack. They would probably be successful but it would only anger the American people and make them support the war. Our military would quickly grow. If China attacked us, they might defeat the west coast but would not get farther than the Rocky Mountains. Engineers would destroy all roads and bridges that would allow the Chinese military to pass through. After that, their military would be sitting ducks. Our advanced Air Force could easily take them out from there. Even though they would attack us constantly via the internet, it would only anger the Americans more and make it harder for the Chinese military. If you think there would be a nuclear war, you are wrong. If one country launched even a single nuclear weapon, the other country would launch the same amount or more nuclear weapons and it would continue until both countries are gone.

The Chinese my have superior numbers but that does not mean they would win. The war however would be fought on the seas rather than the land. The United States currently has a superior navy. The supercarriers are some of the most powerful ships afloat. Few nations can actually support supercarriers. The United States has some where around 11 supercarriers. Most Nimitz class. The navy is currently building a new class of supercarriers with one under construction and plans for more to be built. China has very few if any supercarriers.

Looking at the battles of the pacific during world war II we can see that the carrier is key for victory. Therefore the United States has the upper hand at a naval battle. So the Chinese may have superior numbers on land it will be difficult for them to cross the pacific. All the men in the world won't do anything if they cannot get to where they are needed.

U.S. Troops are also better trained and equipped than Chinese soldiers. The morale of U.S. troops is higher than their Chinese counterparts. In the end this may cancel out the advantage in numbers.

The United States also has the largest economy in the world. The Chinese economy is also large it does not come near to that of the United States.

If you bring nukes into the equation the United States has many more nukes than China. It is unlikely that nukes would actually be used in this war but if they were Neither side would win. China would however be a lot more hurt in such an attack the United States.

In the end considering all factors the United States would win a war with China. U.S. Naval superiority would prevent the Chinese army from reaching the Mainland U.S. and would push the war towards Mainland China.

Land wars are obsolete. Rugjamim says navy, I say air force (although admittedly naval battles are now effectively air force battles, carriers being the major offensive unit, with the rest of the navy deployed to protect the carriers). USAF wins, hands down.

The only other question is that of missiles. I doubt either side would feel compelled to use nukes (except perhaps in desperation - which is why neither side would let it go that far). Missiles require delivery systems. Again, that's down to the navy, since ICBMs are likely to be ineffective against modern STA and ATA countermeasures.

chinas population is much much larger than americas plus china is americas number 1
export import in the world so they could just quit making stuff for us and our
economy would topple even more and wed dig ourselfs into an even bigger hole

Most critical equipment has back ups and a cyber attack would not destroy all the computers in the Country. Most military systems would still continue to work and how does a cyber attack destroy all electrical equipment.

I don't think the technological difference between the two sides is 'slight'. US-made weaponry is a cut above pretty much everyone else's, which is their biggest strength. F-22 jets and Stealth Bombers are considerably superior to their Chinese counterparts, enjoying better range and better radar. The US has more aircraft carriers than anyone else and thus the biggest range of any military. They can project their power far easier.

The US also has a lot more combat aircraft. Comparison below:

China:

Lockheed F-16 Fighting Falcon United States Multirole Fighter F-16 A/B Block 20 144
Dassault Mirage 2000-5 France Multirole Fighter Mirage 2000-5EI/DI 56
AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-kuo Taiwan Multirole Fighter F-CK-1A/B 127
Northrop F-5E/F Tiger II United States Fighter F-5E/F 33[12]

USA:

F-15 Eagle Fighter Aircraft F-15C F-15D F-15E 336 54 223
F-16 Fighting Falcon Fighter Aircraft F-16C F-16D 1,082 180
F-22 Raptor Fighter Aircraft F-22A 137

In terms of ranged power, the US enjoys a huge advantage.

In terms of training, whilst I would not rate the US top of that tree, I would say that China's ruthless and oppressive government would actually go against the discipline of their army. Greater numbers would not mean much in an army (and a populace) that might rebel against their communist regime first chance they get. Hundreds of US jets overhead bombing government and military buildings might just make people think they can rebel.

I'm Chinese but America would win because China is full of people who steal and rob. China would've started a war betweem themselves before American soilders even took one step. The whole China would die in peparation

Sadly, the Chinese forces number 2,250,000 personnel with 800,000 active reserve. American forces number 1,090,000 plus less than a 100,000 reserves.

Chinese light armament may be slightly more obsolete than the weaponry used by US forces, but not enough that the overwhelming odds of 2 to 1 could sweep over... For every machine gun the Americans own, the Chinese have a machine gun and an AK-47. get the picture?

American technology in the Air Force and Navy and armoured weaponry surpasses that of the Chinese weaponry slightly. For example, the United States has the largest fleet of fighters, bombers and attack helicopters (China has no attack choppers) in the world. nevertheless, it only takes one missile to bring each one down.

This is possible as China has begun looking at and building upon C4ISTAR and precision guided munitions. As well as ASAT.

China has been purported to have engaged in laser weapons research and kinetic energy weaponry. Rough stuff.

Also, the US Army has several Corps spread out all over the world. One book I have read stated that 7 years ago they had presence in 104 nations. I'm guessing that number has decreased since the end of the Cold War, but that is still a lot of troops away from home.

I'm inclined to think that the well equipped Americans will mow the Chinese down to a force so puny the Canadian Army could come in and finish them off, but win I do not think they can do.

Also, if we considered alliances, the British Army, an ultra modern fighting force with technology superior and more unified/ceantralized than that of the Americans, would be on the US side. Most of Europe would be on the US side, as well as mexico, Brazil, Japan Canada etcetera. In that case, China has no hope whatsoever. Britain even has the elite Harrier jet.

well, most chinese people will be forced to fight, so their numbers will be much, much bigger than ours. Unless we reinstate a draft (unlikely), most people will not fight in the war, so china's army will be much bigger. Our weapons and their weapons are close to evenly matched, so we don't have the advantage there. So yeah, sadly china will win.

Im pretty sure there would be a nuclear war, because if one side were absolutely losing and its leader was knew they couldnt win if they kept going like that, they would start the nuclear war. wouldn't you?

I am on neither side of this debate because there are so many things involved and so many assumptions.

Here's my take: the things that matter are 1. capabilities of military generals 2. military tech/firepower 3. economy suitable for long-term fighting/events at home 4. World allies 5. preparedness for an invasion

1. well, you can't really know but a mistake could cost a huge amount of troops and money

2. The U.S. has a slightly big advantage over Chinese technology though you never know since governments usually keep their most advanced tech secret. Also, we have to keep nukes and ICBM's aside because neither side wants to use them, though the U.S. has thousands of warheads and Chine has only a150, which would give the U.S. a definite edge. Then there's the navy. The U.S. has a fleet of supercarriers while China has 0, though the Chinese greatly surpass the U.S. in submarine tech and number. So the U.S. would have to keep large fleets and carriers together in order to not get killed one by one by subs. The U.S. therefore would have an edge in invading China. The U.S. is also superior to China in its air force, which consists of predators, some of the world's best carriers and bombers. This would give an edge to the U.S. The land forces of both countries include an assortment of infantry weapons and tanks. The U.S. has the M1 Abrams tank which is the best in the world. U.S. weapons are also slightly superior to that of the Chinese though are fewer in number. Due to the general greatness in number of weapons in each country, it does not necessarily affect the outcome of a war. China has 2.255 million regular troops with 1.2 million reserves while the U.S. has 1.474 million active and 1.459 reserve, which gives China a very big advantage over the U.S. The training of the troops could be debated but i do not think there is a great advantage for either side. The morale of the troops depends but I think that the Chinese have a greater morale due to the war weariness of American troops, though morale will greatly increase when the troops are defending against invaders

3. Economy is a very important asset an army could have. China has a great advantage in this field due to the greatly superior amount of natural resources, money, and factories. The U.S. doesn't really manufacture anything (everything's made in China!!!) so the lack of factories could decrease the ability to mass produce tanks and ammunition. The U.S. economy is also barely growing and food and services have become its main export. Conditions at home also greatly affect the outcome of a war. If the U.S. invades China, war weariness would sweep across all of the U.S. just as it did in Vietnam, Korea and Iraq. The loss of economic as well as political support would destroy any attempt at invading China. The Chinese economy is currently in its own "industrial revolution" that unfortunately creates a lot of pollution but also a lot of economic output. There would be some war weariness in China since a lot of Chinese people are emigrating to the U.S. but not as much as the U.S. would experience in case of a war (Chinese people have confidence/nationalism in their country).

4. If we are just considering a war between China and the U.S. this could be overlooked but a war between the two superpowers of the world will definitely catch the eyes of other countries. This is highly controversial and debatable. If the U.S. invades China, almost no one would support the U.S. because NATO is a defensive pact. Maybe Canada or Britain would support but they might not because unlike Iraq, China is a friggin giant which would discourage many countries from deploying troops. If China invades the U.S. most if not all of NATO will support. Russia might remain neutral because currently it does not favor China or the U.S. Japan will probably be neutral because it does not have any armies (its under the protection of the U.S.) and would want to defend its economic interests. India would be more likely allied to the U.S. or be neutral but never on China's side. Afghanistan would be on China's side since it has received a lot of support from China in the past but this is very debatable. Israel is very debatable since it has received military support from the U.S., economic support from China and in WWII China gladly gave expelled German Jews a home (compared to the U.S. who took in a few thousand then stopped in order to remain neutral). Israel is very important because it has one of the best trained armies in the world. Africa and South America would probably remain neutral but in case of a war very probably would not be allied with the U.S. especially Africa, which has received a lot of economic aid from China.

5. Considering the state of the economy in both countries I would say that China is a lot more prepared than the U.S. in case of an invasion

So finally, considering everything, I would say that this is pretty much a toss up but whoever invades first will suffer great consequences and lose the war. In a land/sea/air battlefield without any other consideration besides tech and armies, I would give the U.S. victory in air and sea but not in land
