Interesting topic...and I'd have to say, as a rule, that your level of acceptance does increase with age...thankfully.

Life experience...along with greater awareness and understanding of the differences...leads to greater acceptance.

I agree with all three of you...ThoughtProcess, Rebirth, and DontPushMe. Rebirth, your statement: "Time is only opportunity. It only gives experience and wisdom to those who use it correctly," is very profound.

I did state "as a rule." So, of course, there are no guarantees in life. Not all people grow more wise and accepting as they become more experienced with life, but I feel as we age, most of us mellow and become more accepting.

My thoughts exactly. Small children often don't even see the differences in race, etc. until they are taught to do so.

Oh, of course...and those are the people ThoughtProcess was referring to. We can always count on there being people, young and old, who are unwilling to change. Some are more extreme than others...rigid, bigotted, and closed-minded.

Time promises a lot, but guarentees nothing.

I'm sure there are older people who have still not learned to accept differences in people despite the fact that they have been given much time.

There are many people who have learned much through time, but it's not guaranteed.

Time is only opportunity. It only gives experience and wisdom to those who use it correctly.

When you are young, you have no preconcieved notions or ideas. As you get older and experience life, you start to develop certain beliefs about people. Whether it be a race, Nationality or from a certain region.
It comes to a point in your life where you put tags on people before you actually know about them based on your own, personnal expieriences.

Age is irrelevant I think. As Aliyah said (while she was like 15 and dating R. Kelly I think lol) "Age ain't nuthin but a number".

I think age gives people the opportunity to utilize their experience to become more accepting of differences in people but it can also serve to solidify stubborn mindsets in stone. There are plenty of dumb ass, uptight old people out there. A few are in my family =)

I don't disagree with you either.

But I was referring to the fact there are still older people today who are still sexists and racists, even though we live in a free and equal society today.
