For the past 18 months I have been semi-retired-only working 15-20 hrs a week at a retail music shop at my convenience to get out of the house ding something I love and interfacing with people which I love to do more and mnore in this increasinglesly less social world, socializing is now more virtual than actual.

Before that I worked 9 to 10 to 12 hours days, 7 days a week for 50 weeks of the year for 19 years as I owned and operator 6 laundromats and 6 coin operated car washes, all in predominantly Black and or Latino neighborhoods and or barrios requiring daily visits to all 12 locations emptying out the money boxes, replensihing supllies and performing maintenance. previously i worked selloing industrial cleaning machines for 6 years for an indy family owned company 6 days a week although for a good portion of the year I had many leisure hours as I traveled throughout the Western and Mid-Western states that were my territory

I say that because i speak from experience when i say I would have rather worked 10 to 12 hours a day 4-5 days a week and have 2-3 full days off then workd 5-6 hours a day 6 days a week. Even a part time day gig is a full day because of the prep time, travel back n forth time and wind down time, so having 2-3 days a week of no job responsibilites would work better, IMO

Great question!

I'm inclined to think that while coming home after work is great, it can often get robbed due to delays (say, traffic, for example), emerging situations (oh, you need me to pick up the kids?), chores (sh*t, I've got to do the dishes) and isn't as "planned leisurely" as a weekend. Further, these days, employers tend to ask its workers (directly or indirectly) to work longer without pay anyway, at least this way one could get an additional weekend day out of it.

Hands down, I would rather work less hours, say 6-7 hours a day for 6 days of the week than to work 8 hours a day and 5 days a week.

Let's face it: Most people don't like their jobs. Many jobs, including my own job, have a lot of "down time." I would rather work for a measly 6 hours and then head home for an extra 2 hours a day, rather than piling on all the hours for 5 days of the week.

Yeah of course having 2 days fully off are nice, but my 'plan' allows for more time each day than to simply work like crazy for 5 days.

I used to have a job that was 7 days a week, 4 or 5 hours a day, but got paid for 38 hours regardless. I had absolutely no problem going in for a short and simple day every day of the week.

If anyone mentions anything about vacation time or time off, it's easy: Ask to use a vacation day!

Do I get a convince because I convinced you it was a GREAT question?!

Come on man, I don't know what the grounds are to be "convinced" but I lack convinces and I don't know why!

I have convinced you, haven't I?!

Yes finally! Thank you!

Maybe I'll start making new and interesting topics and gain convinces that way!

I work how ever many hours I want each week and get paid exactly the same amount per week regardless, whether it is 5 hours or 40 hours per week.

I therefore chose to do very few hours EVERY day of the week. Rather than be sat around for 2 hours Sunday evening watching rubbish tv, I go to work.
It is a good way of doing it.

I also allow my staff to work whatever start and finish time they chose each day. Some come in at 10 and finish at 6. Some come in at 6am and finish at 2pm. Some don't come in until midday, Not a single person in my company is unhappy inside the work place, and stress levels are at a very minimum. I also allow them to skip a couple of hours work and make it up later in the week. A lot of people therefore do shorter days but longer weeks.

It is better for everyone if they can stay in bed an extra couple of hours one day because they had to pick their kids up from a party at 2am, then come into work tired and grumpy. Also, if one day they can't sleep they can come and start early.

:D
