Far from it. They are just normal people, but born into a position of power from all the way back to their true German heritage in the 1700's.

Yes, I believe so.

Titles are not worth as much as they did hundreds of years ago, yet many still treat them better.

Many people believe that if someone has a title, then they are automatically perfect. Perfection does not come from blood, in fact it does not exist in the human species.

Titles are also restricting to those that inherit them. If they make mistakes, instantly all those that have any contact with media projects know about it. They are expected to be perect role models and this causes some to be incapable of showing their true personality.

Most expect those with titles to continue onto politics, or other jobs similier when they choose their career. Some people may want to be something different or travel freely.

Childhoods are about freedom and discovering who you are and hereditary titles may restrict that freedom.

I believe that they should be abolished.

Holy royalty? Such thing exists?

If it did they certainly wouldn't have any DNA or genes.

You want to abolish something that you have already admitted has no meaning? Why not abolish the word "huggletonberry" too?

It is not the fault of those with titles that people choose to treat them 'better' as you say. In fact, it is the people you should blame. Abolishing the titles will do nothing for mankind's willingness to treat some better than others.

In fact, I think you will find not many people with titles ask to be treated differently, but it is well known that people with titles usually have rich friends or are rich themselves. This is a lucrative market for any business, which is why they sometimes get free upgrades etc, to promte their product to a circle of society with wealth. Again, not the fault of those with titles.

The people I know with titles receive nothing but the opposite of what you say, they are usually treated worse because people assume they are always treated better. Meaning they are usually treated badly more often than well. So why keep the titles in the face of this? The same reason you keep your surname. Ancestors and family pride.

A 'Lord' (for example) may have a traced family tree going back centuries, usually to the Norman invasion in 1066. In the modern world, where genealogy is so popular and finding out who your ancestors were or what they did, this is undeniably something to be proud of.

Also, the fact they know what their ancestors did, the responsibilities they had, and the troubles they had, and how they dealt with them means you would rather live with people hating you than to give up the name or title of your family.

Most people would not give up their surname out of pride for their family and their parents, well people with titles are the same. Abolish titles and you achieve nothing. These people will still live in country estates and have land and wealth. You take away their titles, their money will still speak for themselves, and they will still be treated differently. After all, it is the money that speaks, and not the title.

Hmmmm, tough one for me, as is pretty obvious.

Over 100 years ago I would probably have sided with pro-abolition of hereditary titles. The reason being a title gave you greater freedoms and a position of power over others on your land. Which is clearly wrong.

However, seeing as today hereditary titles are little more than just traditions with land and money I see no harm in keeping them.

They were originally bestowed upon people for services to their country. No different to a military medal or Knighthood I suppose. For those who proved themselves and deserved it. Their ancestors then abused that position and power in many cases. But then again, many did not and worked hard for their subjects.

But as I said, today's world is very different. Having a title is no different to being called Dr, or Rev. etc. No 'power' comes with the titles, although wealth and land is not uncommon to be linked with titles. But that said, a celebrity can earn a few million from getting their tits out and then buy a big house and lots of land. It is no different. Anyone can work their way up through society and live like a 'Lord' or 'Lady' by good business or winning the lottery. So why does it matter if someone has a big house and a title?

Only thing I disagree with is that in Britain certain Lords have a place in the House of Lords, this is wrong. They should get voted into parliament like everyone else.

Seeing as today everyone has the same freedoms and rights regardless of Titles, then why should they be abolished?

A small note: It is not easy to get rid of your own title. you can relinquish your claim to it, but then it will get passed to someone else. It is not until the actual hereditary line dies out that the title will die with it. Or if the government actually makes it law that no titles shall be passed through birth. You could give up your right as Lord of Candyville, but your brother or distant relative will then be called it. So might as well hold on to it yourself and be set apart from the ordinary Mr and Mrs.

Ok, but take a step back and think about what a title means. I'm not talking about social prestige, I mean what it literally means.
