Tom Tom has already been gathering data for over a year about how fast its users are travelling along routes its satnavs direct them. According to tom tom, this is to provide a more accurate mapping service which may well be true. I think its not if but how long will it take the government to pass laws to use this fine motorists.

No, not to fine motorists uniformly, but rather to store the data indefinitely and use it only when it's useful. For example, if they want to search someone's vehicle, all they need to do is dig up speeding records to justify pulling it over...

Get a cosmetic license plate with a random combination of O's, D's, and 0's. They're so similar on plates that with a plate full of them they're near impossible to read :)

I'm not talking about distortion of the image, I'm talking about the sheer difficulty of reading a license plate full of 0's, O's, and D's.

My instinct tells me this wont happen for a long time, the technology just isn't there yet. The public outrage would be too high. But i know that in Illinois our lovely Judicial and Legislative systems have planted traffic cameras on just about every single intersection.

My dad got a $100 ticket for doing a rolling stop on camera. The State of Illinois and the City of Chicago make bank with these traffic cams. I wouldn't put it past those corrupt pieces of garbage to install a system in the not-so-distant future.

I think Mythbusters proved that one wrong. Those cameras can pick up a license plate on a car moving almost 200mph.

No that was part of the test. They had a license plate that had a bunch of 0's O's and D's flying by at 190 mph and the camera still picked it up. It might be a pain in the ass for a cop to get your license plate while he's driving but that can easily be solved by him just pulling you over.

I think having a license plate like that would add a lot of unwanted and extra attention from the police. It just gives them another reason to pull me over.
