Do you think the US had any self serving reason to place agent provocateurs in Georgia?
Conspiracy

Everything every country does internationally is at least on some small level self serving. I know nothing about this story and I can tell you this much.

First, I believe people overestimate the capabilities and desire for the US to interfere in the business of its allies.

Second, America gains nothing by instigating in this business, and the accusation by Putin is ludicrous. (keep in mind that Putin's off-colour remarks are not an official Russian position, and while he does maintain the role of Prime Minister, he is not the President and hasn't been for four months)

Third, this is definately not the first time Russia has taken a reactionary posture to the United States over affairs that have very little to do with it. You need to understand that it's part of the culture over there, a product of a very, very, long Cold War.

For Putin to suggest that there was not only a US hand in all of this, but the reason for it was to benefit a presidential candidate just shows what a potential threat Putin may be. This is a completley ridiculous insinuation by Putin and its just to poke the flames.
