Art is always subjective. And there isn't a set criterea. His work is displayed in art galleries and he certainly is a master of his medium. Also, what is considered vandalism by one generation has often transcended into art for future generations. And so I would conclude that he is an artist.

He's a politically motivating, idea-creating artist who has provided an interesting twist of new life into the UK.

I always wonder this though: is Banksy a person or a composite? What do you guys think?

I would agree. The annonymity is a major component of the Banksy character. Removing it removes a lot of what it so interesting.

There's some recent developments that say he has been identified. It would be a shame if he was since I think his annonymity is part of the overall appeal.

However, I still find an interest in the work of Blek le Rat who has removed the mask of anonymity and is considered the forerunner to Banksy.

The Braque to Picasso if you like.
