I love comments on debates, but I find it absolutely maddening when people use that section to argue either side.

Go ahead and highlight points that appealed to you, or ask questions if there's an area that no one's covered, but don't go doing the work for the debaters; it's really rather rude.

And if it's just (as it too often is) "I'm voting for Side B because of [argument neither side has actually made]," then you're just calling attention to how pointless it was for us to have bothered with writing out our arguments to begin with. Umm...thanks. Now go away.

More often than not I get tangled up in 'sub' debates with the comments section AND my opponent. Personally I enjoy having to play to the crowd, which is why I also like KOTH debates which totally rely on your ability to steer mob mentality with a slogan or buzz word in one shot. In that sense it's rather like an elevator pitch.
