It's not a straightforward matter.
It would be better for the US if it could function from its own oil, but that is far from reality. Without foreign oil, the US would be a shadow of what it is today. The reliance on other countries isn't ideal, as good relations must be maintained, but that doesn't seem to stop the US-you just invade the countries. Overall though, I would say it's not a big problem, as if it gets to the point where relations are so bad that they stop supplying you, maybe you should learn that everyone doesn't bow down to you. Like every other country, you have to make compromises.
