Feminism going too far
Norway's center-left government has issued a warning to 140 companies that still don't have enough women on their boards of directors: Appoint more, or be dissolved....

How would it sound the other way around, 60% of CEOS have to be men? That's what this rule equates to.

You need a sexual reproductive organ to work?

I don't get it, assuming I get the context of your posts right, you should agree that the government is wrong, and post on the RIGHT side and not the LEFT side.

Is it ok to tell someone who has been qualified for that opening sorry but you can't have the job because you don't have a penis? That's how it usually works in Western Society. And when the uneven playing field gets leveled someone is bound to get miffed, why shouldn't it be the one's benefitted for 20 years despite others being just as, if not better, qualified?

In the interest of leveling the playing field, I think so, at least for awhile. I say that on the presumption that there are a lot of guys holding those jobs because they are guys, not because they are better qualified than some of their female employees.

I think maybe Juggernaut's point is you need a CERTAIN sexual reproductive organ. I think we can agree most people have them, but should it really matter what percentage of each kind are there?

That brings up another issue... why 40%? if they are going for equality, why slack off? 50% makes more sense. And why not have 50% short 50% tall? Gay/straight? Black/White?

My point is, it looks to me like they don't really care so much about feminism, but about the appearance of caring. Ah politics.

Silly Norwegians... I lived there five years, nice country, pretty scenery, odd fascination with trolls.

Equal opportunity is the goal, but that doesn't exist now and changing the system to give equality a chance involves discriminatory practices as a counter to thos already in place.

If 8 men applied for the job and 2 women applied for it, and they all got the job, how would that be sexism?

I'm pretty sure 99.9% of the world has a sexual reproductive organ

I'm a bit fuzzy on my stance in this debate... but if someone has been working on the board of directors for 20 years is it alright to say "Sorry, you have a penis, clean out your desk so a woman can take your place."

Maybe the reason they dropped to 3rd place is because they're starting to pull off dumb stuff like this?

I'm all for equality in the work place regarding gender... but having a quota still strikes me as odd. If, IF, and I'm not saying this is always the case, more than 60% of the men on the board are more qualified than the women that would fill the remaining 40% would it be fair to axe them in favor of someone qualified due to a reverse case of gender bias?

I believe there should be no quotos for anything - the most qualified people should get the job regardless of any sex or race.

if your standard for judgment isn't equality of opportunity for both men and women, what is it?
