Isn't this just adding to the list?

It's difficult to go in-depth when so many debates are created. Most of them aren't really good debate. I wish there was a way to bump good debates up.

Absolutely. Almost 20 created yesterday (the 12th). The running average in the past few weeks is around 8 or 9 per day.

There should be a maximum posted per day, possibly having someone elses to wait until the following day, either through a filtered bucket or something like that. Give people a chance to read current ones.

Too many debaters are putting time and effort into the current open debates, and then having them fall further down the list, leading to less people reading and responding to them.

(and I know someone will jump at the chance to call this open debate out as 'just another one pushing others down') but I felt this had to be said.

Nice in a way, but almost aggravating in another. I mean, suppose you write this really well thought out argument. And then 2 hours later, you check back and that debate is GONE! Onto the next page where no one sees it.

Then what?!

I believe that a lot of debates should be created. This website should be active because you can WATCH debates that sink down, BUT:

1) If you aren't going to debate on it, then don't create it.

2) If it's not serious, don't create it.

3) If you think nobody will debate on it, don't create it.

For crying out loud: unclench. For weeks I've been seeing nothing but fretting over how inactive the site is; now people are as petulant as if they'd been asked to share their pacifier.

I've seen a run of interesting, intelligent debates in the last couple of days, and I would have thought that people who enjoy this site would be happy about it.

Now, if only we could get more people to vote....

No. All debates won't be of interest to all people. Therefore people can pick and choose which debates to get involved with which, in turn, should see each debate being covered.

If people have any smarts, when they log on they go to the last debate they read and come forward.

When I read a debate, I vote then, if I want to add my 2 cents, I try to do it then. If I don't have the time to answer right now, just have an index card to jot a note on to remind me to go back to it. If after reading it, I feel it isn't my cup of tea, I vote, but hold my 2 cents. This is just a suggestion. It works for me and maybe will for others. :-)

BUT, no there are not too many debates. Actually in my life, this week, they have been a godsend! Sitting in waiting rooms is boring. Reading and writing on my laptop, has helped the time pass more quickly. AND, I have met some really nice kids(wounded soldiers) that were interested in what was amusing me and/or making me mad.

So thanks guys, your debates have given me some GREAT experiences this week!

If it was a rebuttal then it will show up in the email notification. I also use the 'watch list' function for debates that I start.
