I think there are three main reasons.

1. It really went down when the site was first taken down and held hostage by the host, and wouldn't let me login into my VPS.

2. When it came back, it did OK, but back then to boost it up, I was creating a debate a day based on current topics. Now that I have 0 time, I mean, -10 time, I don't create debates. Search the site for NSA or Snowden, and there are no real results. Obviously, that's the kind of debates that need to be happening. Those kind of intelligent debates made convinceme a destination site.

3. My time. I was going to put an effort into social media, and whatnot, and just didn't have the time for it. I still think it's better than most of the crap out there, and I always hope that I'll get some spare time...

I joined on here around early 2007 and I stayed here until around 2010. I had to make this new account because of the Facebook connectivity and privacy concerns.

Back in 07, 08 and 09, this was a website full of intelligent debaters and lots of activity. There was a forum, and comments sections in battles, among other features for profiles and friends. Around late 09 and early '10, activity declined and many of the regulars like myself left. Of course I would always come here but only to see how good things used to be.

This is not the website it once was, is my point, I guess.

If anyone else on here used to be a regular, maybe we can restart this community.

Thanks for your comment Vancam.

And yeah, even with Bush gone, there's more controversy than ever. But yes, I agree, our community used to be close-knit but committed. Which was better than many fickle posters, but if a handful of members leave, there's quite a fracture.

From time to time, I flip flop. Part of me wants to team up with old members and restart this community. The other part of me wants to leave the nostalgia behind.

I can tell it's a ghost town around here.

It used to be quite good fun. I don't know if the makeover put people off (I agree the Facebook integration doesn't feel appropriate for this site), or maybe the level of debate just sunk to a lowest common denominator (like this, http://www.convinceme.net/debates/2046068961/United-States-US-vs-European-Union-EU.html).

Part of me thinks the end of the Bush era might have left us with less contention to discuss (but we know that's not really true).

Realistically though I suspect that we always had a fragile community of 'just enough' active debaters and when the numbers dropped even slightly there wasn't enough going on to self-sustain it anymore.

yeah after the site crashed it left a shock that it would never fully recover from, but it might have also been an overall trend that was going on anyway.

i thank you for all the work on the site. i truly hope it does get better though.
