Marijuana. You can't compare death tolls because marijuana is illegal, in fact.

Marijuana doesn't kill you. It just gives you diseases. Which kill you...

Complacent? Not necessarily. While weed is an euphoric, it is also a mood enhancer. That means someone who is already angry may become violent. I will admit that it is far less likely to have that effect than alcohol, since alcohol is a depressant (depressed people tend to be more angry) and reduces the capacity of the pre-frontal lobe to over-ride impulses inspired by one's emotions.

Are you suggesting that human brains are incapable of self-conflicting ideations or emotions? That is patently absurd. We have no less than 20+ neurotransmitters, each of which produces a distinctly different mental state. Tetrahydra cannbinol, the active ingredient in pot, is a complex biochemical. Are you arguing that it is incapable of effecting more than one neurotransmitter?

So you're trying to tell me weed is not addicative?
After at least 10 attempts, I finally kicked the habit of smoking weed - it really was hard in the past. But with the help of my girlfriend I stopped smoking it habitually. It really was becoming a pain in the ass (and the wallet.)

Sure there are benefits to both alcohol and weed as relaxants, and I support the legalisation of weed, but there is no way in hell that I would say it's "not addictive," cos i've never been more addicted to anything in my life - alcohol included.

I'd say they both carry ill-effects that belong to different classifications. The prescence of this debate on an internet forum may have something to do with the psychological effects of marijuana on the brain - I know I was more computer-bound on weed than without it. Without medical evidence to support either conclusion, I choose to abstain from this vote for the time being. But as someone who drinks alcohol, and who has used weed for over 10 years, I'll say that alcohol carries medical and psychological effects, and weed definitely carries psychological effects. It's only the weightings of these effects and their action as impediments to a normal healthy lifestyle that remain unclear.

nobody has ever died from too much marajuana, alcahall on the other hand

booz is addictive, weed is not

both have their benefits, there should be the same rules for weed as there is for alc, ie DUI and public intox ,21 age limit and so forth

Marijuana is psychologically addictive, the same way gambling and sex is addictive, not physically addictive like alcohol.

It is near-impossible to overdose on marijuana. Likewise you're much less likely to take too much, or vomit or get similarly sick from marijuana.

More people commit violent crime under influce of alcohol than marijuana.

The "damage" done to the brain cells by marijuana has been proven to be temporary. The damage to the liver from alcohol is permanent.

Marijuana has no hangover. It kicks in faster, and you sober up faster from marajuana.

Alcohol is not perscribed as medicine in any state.

I'll be the first to admit that alcohol, in the long run, is likely worse for you than MJ...
although, i wouldn't say that either are 'good' for you in any sense of the word.
they're both addictive, cause you to lose brain cells, cost money etc...
they're both a downward spiral of a sort, however, for the sake of picking a winner (or loser), i'd vote that if used in excess, booze is worse.

Worse is an undefined term which can be used broadly or narrowly. Using the broadest definition, I would have to say alcohol causes the most harm to society and is therefore worse than pot

Actually it isn't the marijuana itself, but the tars from inhaling the smoke. Used in other ways it doesn't have any long-term adverse effects with two possible exceptions. One is the reduced capacity for short-term memory. The last I heard it hasn't been determined whether or not one regains all of the initial short-term memory after stopping. The other is that pot can cause genetic defects in human gametes. The effect, if true, would be short term in males, because sperm cells are replaced very frequently. Women, however, only get one clutch of eggs. Once they are damaged, they are damaged for life.

I'm guessing you learned most of what you know about marijuana in PE. Take some time to actually read about the subject you're debating before you start spouting nonsense like that.

i shot my wad on the last marijuana debate i was in. the data is all skewed. it just depends on your source. alcohol makes you violent, weed makes you complacent (maybe paranoid). take it or leave it.

While we have different neurotransitters, the chemical in pot doesn't affect our neurotransmitters directly. It effects our brains ability to release horemones like seratonin and that's what effects the neurotransmitter.

Seratonin gives us feelings of happiness and comfort, and anger/discomfort is a symptom of LACK of seratonin, so no we cannot by euphoric and angry at the same time. That's like someone being up and down or cold and hot at the same time.

diseases? And what kind of diseases did your mom tell you pot gives you? The only reason MJ is not llegal is because it's a market that cannot be controlled by the government. It's been underground for so long. Doctors are even perscribing it for medicinal purposes in case you haven't heard. My father was perscribed MJ for his back. I saw him last week bent over under the hood of his chevy feeling great. If he was drinking he'd probably be passed out on the floor or screaming at little children on his lawn.

I have tried alot of things over my years and I will admit that alcohol has been the most damaging thing for my life. When you smoke marijuana you might get sick, but you won't end up blacking out and forgetting EVERYthing that you do. You can drink so much that you can die, unlike pot. Alcohol hinders your abilities in so many more and worse ways that this shouldn't even be an arguement. If look at the facts, alcohol kills alot more than marijuana ever has or will.
