citizens when they wont and we cant care fore our
own we need to look after ourselves before looking
after others call it selfish if you wish but
others wine and cry about poverty and look at the
us fore help when we cant even take care of the
poverty in our own home.

It was the right thing to do for multiple
reasons.

First, for humanitarian reasons. There is a large
difference of poverty between Haiti and the United
States. They were already much poorer than the
people of the United States before the earthquake
even started.

Second, you underestimate the gravity of this
situations. The death toll is in the 6-figures.
Many businesses and government buildings are now
rubble. The infrastructure is ruined. There are
many more destitute and injured people with lack
of medical supplies. And we can expect crime to
go up because of this.

Third, because it would produce a large impact
with a relatively low cost. Better to handle it
right away than to have it worsen by doing
nothing, and having to go back later and help.

Fourth, for diplomatic reasons, as diplomacy with
Latin America has always been important to the
United States, and the United States could have
faced political repercussions, such as losing
respect from many countries.
