Well you see children won't take 50 packs of gum and stuff it in they're mouth they should have a reasonable amount of gum like for me i don't get too much i sometimes just want something to chew in my mouth, anddd REALLY WEIGHT GAIN?? Look in the back each piece of an amount of 60 calories that's nothing compared to an average boys meal like it's nothin nothing.
Teachme, in the case of a student with a severe attitude problem that would case them to pop their gum, chew loudly, or blow bubbles in class, a teacher could easily and should take control and tell the student to either stop or spit out their gum.
As for the Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ), clenching your teeth or even just chewing on a pencil, pen, or even your nails can cause TMJ.
Gum is definately more of a good thing than a bad thing since it can help stimilate the brain and can help studens more.
Anyways, students will always break the rules and chew gum in class. If gum is allowed there will most likely be less gum stuck under desks, spit onto the ground outside and inside the classroom (inside, the gum will most likely become ground into the carpet and create a disguisting mess that will take more money to clean up that it would take to just allow the gum.)
You see teach me just because a few has a really bad beahaviour doesn't mean all of us can't chew it, for example some criminals uses cars to flee away from the cops should they take away our cars?I mean just ban the person from ever chewing gum?????? and Trust me these days no one iss stupid enough to chew loudily like a cow unless you want the teacher to notice and get sent down to the office?
And the (TMJ) sorry but i have no idea what it is (i'm in elementary) But trust me i know a lot of people NONE got it soo i would consider it as a rare. And i know no matter how much debates are on it it's no use the teacher won't let us chew gum in school although i am positively sure that in schools Either it's Elemantary or high school there will be gum chewing and teachers really can't stop it, So why can't we chew gum if the teachers spotted gum under the table or people chewing like crazy monkey's just ban it again they have no right to ban us for somethings we didn't do.

In WWI, chewing gum was used as a minor stress reliever for soldiers on the move, and it was a minute thing but affective. I don't mean to compare school to the military, because that would undermine our soldiers, but school is ofte4n a stressful environment for children.
Also, the gum on the floor and under chairs would probably be reduced if gum was allowed - the bigger the line, the more you want to cross it. If gum wasn't against the rules, people wouldn't feel rebellious chewing it, so the rates of gum chewing would dramatically drop, based on the idea that the urge is felt to impress one's peers through acts of rebellion.
I've heard that sugar actually helps calm down kids with ADD, so that would help in that way as well.

People say chewing gum can make you think harder, I mean now still alot in my class chews gum and the only reason they don't want us to chew is because they think we will put it beneath out desks after but secretly mosssst of the class chews and we don't see gum down the table that proves we are capable to chew teachers these days are too strick about gum

The problem is...all's it takes is someone with too much of an attitude, popping their gum...or chewing loudly, like a cow...or blowing bubbles to attract attention, and you have added distractions in the classroom.
I have read about the studies that show how gum chewing can stimulate brain activity; however, if you chew enough of it, you may find yourself suffering with Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMJ).
I don't know, Melon...
Students will always find something to rebel about. I suppose it's just part and parcel of the institution of learning, when you are 'forced' to be there. Does that mean you should have no rules or guidelines?

Encourage the consumption of sugar in children, and you are promoting poor/unhealthy eating habits, weight gain, tooth decay, and possibly diabetes.

It's not really the chewing itself, it's the stuff that comes with it.
- Improper disposal of gums. I remember having to take a small shovel and spending a lot of time removing those gun from desks and brick floors. Wrappers on the floor is really not the school's problem.
- Passing gums. Sort of a distraction during class.
Can't think of more right now, but there's definitely a lot.
