Ha ha...yeah, I didn't realize when I said that that you could write a rebuttal in addition to your original argument. Although, the way rebuttals are organized is inconvenient. The rebuttal needs to link to or thread with the argument.
Usenet is as good as the newsreader you use to access it. Even when I first started using newsgroups in 1998, using Outlook Express, the threading functionality of what was basically an e-mail client. 9 years on that interface still totally eclipsed this site for ease of tracking a debate, and replies to your own posts in it.
Stacking each new post and rebuttal purely on the criteria of what time it was posted is a broken debate mechanic. Yours is the fifth post in the debate, my rebuttal will be placed more than a full-screen scroll below it, on the opposite side of the screen, and if you'd posted more than once, I'd have to waste some of my 1,000 characters quoting you so you'd know which one I was rebutting.
The layout here needs a serious rethink. Either ditching the partition altogether, or appending rebuttals to the post they rebut.
People have been expressing their opinion on the Internet since way back in the Usenet days. This site might, might have been a good idea in 1996.
People already argue with people on message boards with people they know, it's near pointless to do the same exercise with strangers.

I have had a good look around & I reckon the site is a bit Lame, all a little too polite & nice, maybe people are afraid of getting kicked out if they start to get a little (Bold) in thier opinion, you can not have a down to earth discusstion with people who won't fight back.
Its a Lame Duck!

It's a good idea, but I think the execution is wrong. The "one argument per person" system doesn't allow back-and-forth discussion. The end result is not a debate, but a popularity contest for which "argument" best expresses the voters' thoughts as they pass by.

Whilst in the Beta stage, so the site still has the potential to be a genuine place of debate, it has some glaring flaws.
Firstly, the positioning of the "Vote" button right at the top simply encourages people to punch-in their prejudices without even having to scroll down past the arguments, let alone read them. You can even Vote for a side of a debate that hasn't even had an argument made for it.
The forum-style post stacking destroys any sense of point and counterpoint if more than 2 people are debating, made worse by the arbitrary blending of new arguments and rebuttals, making any kind of flow impossible.
Proper threading, and a minimum time observing the debate before being allowed to vote might help rectify these problems, but as it stands, the site doen't work very well.

I voted for the other side. I do not know why I am commenting here.
Add an Argument
How did you get to know those people on the message boards? Magic? Harry Potter must have nothing on you. This is building a community and eventually you will know many of the people. Great idea and execution in my opinion. Of course if you think it sucks I invite you not to argue back.
This is a better forum for pure debate than the traditional forum or Usenet group.
Woot! You actually fell for it. See if you think the site sucks then why are you wasting your time on it. But see you really like to argue so you continue. My argument was not wussy at all. If you truly think the site sucks you wouldn't be wasting your time arguing it on the site you think sucks! By arguing you are supporting our side, congratulations noob!

Do you mean it lacks a rebuttle? Like the one I'm sending you now? O.o

Sounds like you're fighting to me. Thus, this site even gets people who dislike it to argue! It wins.
And where else, exactly, can people do this in an environment that's specialized for debate?

this is a great way for expressing thoughts and getting both views of the arguement.if you really cant handle a 'internet arguement' wow.

This website allows users to express their opinions through constructive arguements on certain topics. It's a simple yet genious idea! This site does not suck at all.
Who doesn't like to express their opinion? I like the diverse subjects. Serious to silly. I also enjoy reading what other people think. Huge thumbs up from me!

This site is a brilliant idea. It offers a more organized method of arguing instead of the random spammed garbage you find in a chat room or in a message board. There can never be enough oppurtunities to express ones self, and this site offers a system in which you can even see that people believe in what you say and agree with you and back up your opinion.
This site most certainly DOESN'T suck.

This site rocks. It's about time. I'm so damned tired of being PC I can't stand it. Prepare to taste defeat people.
I think if you took the time to post here, you pretty much already answered this question.

i gotta admit, its hard to find so many educated people in one place, i find it fun to talk to people who kow what theyre talking to about, most of the time, this site is a great idea.
I agree with vegeton. This is the only place I know of that situates an organized debate. Not to mention the interface and design of everything is highly comfortable. I'm planning on inviting a few of my friends here. If this site weren't here, we would've never been able to have a good laugh at these people who post an argument against an argument site. Oh the paradox!
The fact that this debate was made, is lame, if that's what your talking about.
ANYONE ONTHE OPPISITE END OF THIS DEBATE IS A BIT HYPOCRITICAL THE WAY I LOOK AT IT I MEAN IF YOU THINK THE SIGHT SUCKS THEN WHY ARE YOU ON IT THOSE PEOPLE PROBABLY COME AND CHECKED IF THEY'VE CONVINCED ANYONE IF THEY REALLY DISLIKED IT THIS ARGUEMENT WOULDN'T EVEN BE POSTED
690 + members in a couple of days. Not sure how it will work out in the long run - but it has some obvious appeal right now.
No, arguing helps with debate, and debate is useful.
ok, I can't be on the same side of an argument as theagwmenace. I just can't.

This site gives people one place to say their opinions and arguments on a wide variety of subjects. It's better than bumping into an argument on some forum.
Obviously, since you are posting on this site, it means that it
doesn't suck, and why exactly would you be on the site if it
sucked?

I don't think this site sucks. I like it even more since it has been reconstructed, but i do think that alot of the debates in here are not really debate topcs and they are more just like based on people's opinions rather than facts or values.
One good point is why would you even join this site if it sucks?
Plus arguing with strangers is a tradition which has been going on for hundreds of years. Better then arguing with your friends as well!
